What it is
Quaker's long-running oatmeal chocolate-chip cookie.
1 cup (2 sticks) margarine or butter · 1¼ cups firmly packed brown sugar · ½ cup granulated sugar · 2 eggs · 2 Tbsp milk · 2 tsp vanilla · 1¾ cups all-purpose flour · 1 tsp baking soda · ½ tsp salt (optional) · 2½ cups Quick (or 3 cups Old Fashioned) Quaker Oats · one 12 oz package (2 cups) semi-sweet chocolate pieces · 1 cup chopped nuts (optional).
Oven 375°F. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto an ungreased sheet. 9–10 minutes for chewy, 12–13 for crisp. Cool 1 minute on the sheet. About 4½ dozen.
As bars: press onto an ungreased 13 × 9-inch pan, bake 30–35 minutes until light golden brown. 32 bars.
High altitude: increase flour to 2 cups.
Notes
Filed to Printed\ on the folder test — printed, no handwriting, brand-owned.
The two-doneness instruction (chewy vs crisp, three minutes apart) is the genuinely useful thing on this clipping and the reason it survived on the card rather than in the bin.
Same mounting habit as strawberry-pretzel-squares — clipping glued to a lined index card so it would
file with the handwritten ones.
