Fruit & Cream Pie

From the family recipe box

FromRecipe Box
Serves
one 6 oz. ready crust
Course
Sweets

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup thawed Cool Whip
  • 1 Keebler ready-crust (6 ounces)
  • 1 package (4-serving size) Jello any flavor (use flavor of fruit selected)
  • 1 package (4-serving size) Vanilla Flavor Cook & Serve Pudding/Pie Filler (as written)
  • 1¼ cups water
  • 2 cups sliced fruit

Method

Mix cream cheese and sugar in large bowl until well blended. Stir in Cool Whip. Spread in crust. Refrigerate.

Mix gelatin, pudding mix and water in medium saucepan until smooth. Stirring constantly, cook on medium until mixture just comes to boil. Remove from heat. Cool five minutes. Stir in fruit. Spoon over cream cheese layer.

Refrigerate 4 hours or until set. Store in frig.

Notes

Complete card, both sides, nothing flagged.

"(use flavor of fruit selected)" is the whole design of the recipe and the reason it is worth having: it is a template, not a fixed pie. Whatever fruit is in season sets the gelatin flavour, and the card says so explicitly. Tagged flexible for that reason.

Note the pudding type again: Cook & Serve, not instant — as on chocolate-turtle-pie. This box's cards are consistently careful about that distinction, which suggests whoever copied them understood it mattered.

The writer's phrase "cook on medium saucepan" on the reverse is a slip for "medium heat"; kept as written.

Another Kraft/Keebler brand recipe in the run of them copied out in this same cursive hand.

The last line sits on the bottom edge of page 2, slightly clipped, but reads "Store in frig."
