Read this one with the card open. Something on it is illegible, missing or ambiguous. It is transcribed exactly as written — nothing has been guessed or filled in — and every uncertainty is marked below.
(title spelled and capitalised as written — "lemon Glacers")
Bottom
- 1 c. flour
- 2 tbsps of sugar
- ½ c. butter
Top
- 2 eggs beaten
- ½ c. frimly packed Brown sugar (spelled as written)
- ¾ c. cocoanut (spelled as written)
- ½ c. walnuts
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp Baking powder
- ½ tsp vanilla
Method
Mix bottom into crumb & cook 10 min.
Combine all ingredients for top. Bake 25–30 min.
Ice when hot.
Notes
⚠ NO OVEN TEMPERATURE IS GIVEN ANYWHERE ON THIS CARD. Both bakes have times — 10 minutes and 25–30
minutes — and neither has a temperature. ⚠ not stated on the card. This is the single most
consequential omission in the batch so far, because the recipe cannot be made from the card alone.
Nothing is guessed here; comparable shortbread-base bars in this same box run at 325–350°, but that is
someone else's card and it is not written in.
⚠ "Ice when hot" — but no icing is specified. No ingredients, no quantities, not even a kind. Given the title, a lemon glaze is the obvious reading, and it is not recorded as such because the card does not say it. The title may be the only clue anyone has left to what that icing was.
⚠ Nothing on the card says what pan or what size.
Three material gaps in one short card, so publish: needs-review. A person who made these could close
all three in a minute, and it is worth asking while that is still possible — this is exactly the kind of
recipe that becomes unrecoverable.
"Glacers" is presumably glazers or the French glacé, spelled by ear. Kept as written.
The card spells coconut "cocoanut", the older form — the same spelling appears on magic-cookie-bars,
possibly the same hand.
