A no-stovetop pecan fudge recipe, made in the microwave and set in the freezer — the whole method fits on one small card, front and back.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (1#) powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine or butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 3/4 cup pecans

Method

  1. Line an 8x8x2 pan with foil.
  2. Sift sugar and cocoa into a 2 qt baking dish.
  3. Add milk and butter — do not stir (underlined in original).
  4. Microwave 2-1/2 minutes.
  5. Add vanilla, stir until all ingredients are well blended.
  6. Turn into the foil-lined pan.
  7. Put in the freezer 10 minutes.
  8. Store in a tin.

Notes on the artifact

Handwritten, two-sided card. Scan order note: the scan's page order is reverse-then-face — page 1 of the scan is physically the back of the card (the continuation instructions above, written on recycled "To Market To Market" pig-illustration card stock); page 2 is the front (title and ingredients, ending "(over)"). Filed here as a single two-sided recipe, reordered front-to-back for readability. No date, signature, or attribution on either side.
