Read this one with the card open. Something on it is illegible, missing or ambiguous. It is transcribed exactly as written — nothing has been guessed or filled in — and every uncertainty is marked below.
A buttermilk yeast-dough pizza crust, typed on an index card, sized to make two pizzas.
⚠ A judgment call worth flagging. This is a typewritten personal index card, not a magazine or
brand clipping — nothing on it credits a publisher, a magazine, or a brand. The wing's placement rule
is "the test is the handwriting, not the content," and typed is not handwritten, so by the letter of
that rule this lands in Printed/. But by everything else about it — no printed source, a name-free
family-style card, a food-budget title ("Paupers") — it reads as family material, not third-party
copyright, which is exactly what Printed/ exists to fence off. Filed here on the letter of the
rule; see the open question below.
Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon soda
- 1 cup (4 oz package) grated cheddar or other cheese
Method
Combine buttermilk, sugar, and butter in a large saucepan; heat to lukewarm; remove from heat. Add yeast and stir to dissolve. Stir in flour, salt, and soda until well blended. Knead on a floured surface until smooth, about 1 minute. Let rest 10 minutes. Pat the dough onto a greased 12-inch pizza pan or cookie sheet. Spread with topping — ⚠ no topping or sauce is specified on the card — and sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 400°F for 20–25 minutes.
"This will make two pizzas." (as written on the card)
Notes on the artifact
A two-sided typewritten index card: ingredients on the front (marked "(Over)" pointing to the back), instructions on the back. No name, attribution, or date appears on either side. No topping or sauce is specified anywhere on the card — a real gap, not a transcription omission.
